The Position

In Roche´s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organisation (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicine. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.

This position is located in Preclinical Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (pCMC), a department within the pRED Therapeutic Modalities organization, where we pave the path to bring drug candidates from early research into development in a diverse, ambitious and innovative environment. We collaborate actively with our discovery and development partners' functions providing cutting-edge technologies and scientific excellence to transform molecules into future medicines.

We are CMC experts and build our strength on a broad diversity of technical expertise in chemistry, formulation, analytical chemistry, delivering and innovating in the space of small molecules, peptides and oligonucleotides.

Role Mission

We are offering an outstanding opportunity for a digitalization and data scientist to enable rational decision-making, develop and improve data processes and workflows and to deliver data-driven insights to project teams.

Your Impact

  • Bringing Data Science to a higher level in the organization by extracting knowledge from data sets for informed decision making

  • Using established and further evolving modelling techniques and AI tools (machine learning, deep learning) to contribute to project decisions across the various departmental functions regarding molecular, physicochemical, and drug product aspects.

  • Nurturing trustful relationships and effective collaboration within our organization and across interfaces with other departments representing pCMC in data science, digitalization and automation networks across the whole Roche community locally and globally

Your Profile

Thriving in a dynamic, inclusive environment gives you full accountability for your own contributions and development. You have a keen interest in continuously building a personal network and are resourceful and flexible in problem-solving and working in a collaborative and inclusive manner. You have a sense of ensuring that everyone has the required information at all times.

You have a Master in Natural Sciences (chemistry, pharmacy, physics, biology, or related field) with extensive professional experience including preferably a PhD or Postdoc in Data or Computational Sciences. You can translate diverse data sets in knowledge by using computational methods. You have hands-on experience in modelling and/or data science techniques including statistical analysis. You combine this with a strong affinity for characteristics of molecules in a pharmaceutical context. How do they interact with themselves and with other molecules, e.g. in a drug formulation? How do you effectively synthesize them? How can you computationally assist experimental methods to analyze them? These are questions which make you thrive and about which you are eager to find an answer. You possess excellent programming skills (e.g. the Python toolkit including Jupyter notebook) in combination with good software engineering practices. When you have a familiarity with pipelining tools (e.g. Pipeline Pilot) and/or visualization tools (e.g. Spotfire) that is an advantage.

You have very strong oral and written communication skills and are dedicated to continuously building a deep understanding of the organization and a personal network. You connect colleagues in multiple parts of the organization to reach shared goals and value a culture of mutual support, cross-training, continuous learning and self-organization to meet project and functional goals.
